I.  NC Public Schools Will Produce Globally Competitive Students

 

  • West Middle School – Impact Strategies for Reading at the Middle School Level
    • Derek McCoy, Principal - WMS discussed how they are using strategies to increase reading fluency at West Middle.  
  • North Carolina State Accountability Model – (Enclosure 8) Dale Ellis - Dr. Ellis presented the proposed changes to the State Accountability Model. 
  • Career and College Promise – (Enclosure 9) Dale Ellis - Dr. Ellis discussed the Career and College Promise initiative implemented by Gov Bev Perdue.  It will benefit our students greatly.

II. NC Public Schools Will Be Led by 21st Century Professionals
 

  • Teacher Effectiveness Update – (Enclosure 10) Dale Ellis - In alignment with the statewide emphasis on accountability, the state will report on teacher effectiveness for the first time on January 20, 2012.

III. NC Public School Students Will Be Healthy and Responsible

  • Montgomery County Schools Customer Service Survey – (Enclosure 11) Dale Ellis - Results from this year's central office customer service survey are available! 

V. NC Public Schools Will be Governed and Supported by 21st Century Systems
 

·         Energy Management Update – (Enclosure 12 ) – Nelson Furr, Nelson Jessup - As a result of the energy management program, MCS saved a total of $643,000 (19%) in cost avoidance over the last three years.

·         2012-2013 Montgomery County School Calendar – (Enclosure 13) – Kevin Lancaster Action Item - The Board unanimously approved the 180-day calendar for the 2012-2013 school year.

·         Policy and Regulations – (Enclosure 14) – Kevin Lancaster Action Item - The Board approved the following policies.
