FAQs
A: This is a little tricky on a lot of different devices. Click on your settings icon. Select Network & Internet. View the available connections and select MCS-Secure. Connect by entering the same username (identity on phone) and password (password on phone) you use for your laptop. On Android phones choose "Do Not Validate" under the CA certificate.
A: The Technology Department will NEVER send you an e-mail asking for your username and password. If you receive an e-mail that asks for your username or password--or gives you a link to follow—do not click it. This is called “phishing” and is a technique identity thieves love to use. Never give out your password, especially if you use the same password for other accounts! If you’re unsure, contact someone with the company by telephone.
For Example: NCSECU
Here’s some information that NCSECU warns about bank scams. https://www.ncsecu.org/Security/CurrentThreats.html
You may get phished from what seems to be your bank, from the Tech Dept. or even from Facebook.
So what do I do?
Just delete those e-mails. If you want to avoid receiving e-mails in your inbox from that particular name or e-mail address, you can set your e-mail account up to send those e-mails directly to your Junk e-mail folder. Then all you have to do is empty your junk folder periodically.
-
Right click on the message and point to “Junk e-mail”
-
Left click on “Add Sender to blocked senders list”.
The next time you restart Outlook, that “rule” will be in place and everything from that specific e-mail address or with that sender’s name will go to the Junk E-mail folder. NOTE: Some spammers/phishers will continue to send the same e-mail from a different address and/or username. The best you can do if that’s the case is just keep ignoring and deleting those messages.
By the Way
You can use this same method to keep e-mails from specific contacts from getting sent to your junk e-mail folder. After step 1, choose one of the two options to add that e-mail to the safe senders list.
Q: I receive a lot of e-mails from people claiming to be administrators for "our company". How can I tell if they are legitimate.
A: All e-mails coming from the MCS Technology Department are sent either from an employee's regular e-mail account or from MCS Tech Support only. When in doubt--check the domain it is being sent from. The domain is everything after the @ sign and should be @montgomery.k12.nc.us if it is.
