Mr. Benjie Brown to be recommended as the First Hire at Montgomery Central High School

Mr. Benjie Brown to be recommended as the First Hire at Montgomery Central High School

Montgomery County Schools will recommend that Mr. Benjie Brown be hired in a combination position at the January 2019 Board of Education meeting. If approved by the Board, Mr. Brown will serve as Facilities Manager, Athletic Director, and Head Football Coach for Montgomery Central High School. With the merging of athletics for next school year, Mr. Brown would assume the duties of his new role on March 1, 2019.

Mr. Brown came to Montgomery County in July 2014 and has served with distinction as the Principal of West Montgomery High School for over 4 years. During his time as the leader of the school, West Montgomery saw much growth in student scores and students were very successful, both in the classroom and in their chosen athletic endeavors.

“With the impending opening of the new CTE Center next school year, and with the recent approval by the NCHSAA that will allow us to combine athletics at East and West Montgomery, it became imperative that we hire two positions right now, the Facilities Manager and the Athletic Director positions. In our discussions with Mr. Brown, it was clear that he was very passionate about Montgomery County Schools and he was passionate about our students and their success. Once the discussion evolved into the possibility of coaching football again, it became very clear to me that Mr. Brown was passionate about the possibility of returning to the sidelines as well. This combination of positions fits very well with Benjie’s strengths. He is a wonderful leader and I can think of no better person to manage the physical facilities at Montgomery Central and the CTE Center than Benjie Brown. His credentials to serve as Athletic Director and Head Football Coach are also beyond reproach. We are serious about the success of our students, both in the classroom and on the fields of play. With Mr. Brown leading the facilities and athletic pieces of the puzzle, the hire for the new Principal at Montgomery Central High School can stay totally focused on providing world-class academics for our students. The hiring of Mr. Brown now is a true win-win for Montgomery County Schools,” stated Superintendent Dr. Dale Ellis.

Mr. Brown earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Western Carolina University in 1993 and a Master of Arts degree in School Administration and his administrative license from Gardner-Webb University in 2009. In 11 years as a head coach at Davie County, Asheboro, and Thomasville, Mr. Brown’s teams had a record of 116-34 and captured three state football championships.
