Dirk Gurley Named as New Principal for Montgomery Central High School
Board Approves Mr. Dirk Gurley as the new Principal of Montgomery Central High School
Montgomery County Schools is excited to announce the selection of Dirk Gurley as the new principal for Montgomery Central High School.
“After conducting an exhaustive search, we are thrilled to find a top-notch educator of Mr. Gurley’s caliber to join our team,” stated Superintendent of Montgomery County Schools, Dr. Dale Ellis. “We are confident that he is the right choice to bring our communities together to work as a team as we transition to the new high school. His professional experience, knowledge with working with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and desire to help students achieve their highest potential will contribute to his success in this new role. Our district is fortunate to have attracted someone with Mr. Gurley’s experience, talents and proven achievements. It was the unique nature of our current transformation and the excitement of what we are accomplishing for our students that has led him here. He is truly a school leader at heart, and he is so excited to be the principal at Montgomery Central. We could not be more excited as a leadership team to welcome him aboard.”
Mr. Gurley comes to Montgomery County from Horry County Schools, SC where he most recently served as the District Lead Hearing Officer at the Central Office. He assumed this leadership role after serving as principal in the district for 9 years. During that time, he led Loris High School to receive many academic honors and recognitions. Mr. Gurley has over 30 years’ experience in education having served as a teacher, coach, an assistant principal for 17 years, and a principal for 15 years.

I offer my sincere appreciation to Dr. Ellis and the Board of Education for providing me with this opportunity. One of my first and main goals as I join the school system will be to listen and gather as much input from as many stakeholders as possible. Each of your ideas and concerns are important to me as we work together to provide students the tools and support necessary to be successful. Family is very important to me and I look forward to my family becoming an active part of this great community. Again, I am grateful to be joining Montgomery County Schools."
Mr. Gurley holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Physical Education from High Point University. He also has a master’s degree in Educational Administration from North Carolina A&T State University. In 2007 and 2008, he received the runner-up NC Wachovia Principal of the Year for Region V.
