MCS Names JaMese Black Principal of the Year for 2019-2020

Montgomery County Schools is proud to announce that JaMese Black, Principal at East Montgomery High School, has been selected by her peers as the 2019-2020 Principal of the Year, in a program sponsored by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and Wells Fargo.

“I applaud Mrs. Black on being selected for this prestigious award, stated MCS Superintendent, Dr. Dale Ellis. She is a dedicated administrator committed to academic excellence and ensuring that all students are successful. Strong leadership is essential in our schools, and I am thrilled to have administrators like Mrs. Black leading the way.”

Mrs. Black has been the principal at East Montgomery since 2018. Prior to that, she served as the principal of Magna Vista High School in Virginia for three years. She also has six years’ experience as an assistant principal. Mrs. Black holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History with a minor in English and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership all from High Point University.  

“I am truly humbled and surprised to be selected as Montgomery County Schools Principal of the Year. It is an honor to collaborate with supportive colleagues and leadership who embrace innovation and growth for all students who attend Montgomery County Schools. I am grateful for our amazing staff, students, parents, and supportive community of East Montgomery High School.  We strive to “SOAR” every day in every way,” Black stated after receiving this honor.

Mrs. Black will now move on to compete with other local award recipients from the Sandhills/South Central Region of the state. After the state selection process is completed, one principal will be selected as the 2020 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year.

This is the 35th year Wells Fargo has sponsored this award. The regional Wells Fargo Principals of the Year receive an award for their school and an award for personal use. The 2020 Wells Fargo Principal of the Year will receive $3,000 for his or her school and $3,000 for his or her personal use.

Regional award recipients will be selected by February 2020 and the 2020 State Wells Fargo Principal of the Year will be announced in the spring of 2020 at a state event in Raleigh.
