21st CCLC MERIT Remote Learning Afterschool Program
Frequently Asked Questions
What is this program? The 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) MERIT Program is a federally funded program dedicated exclusively to supporting local afterschool, before school, and summer learning programs.
Who can attend the program? Any student enrolled in Kindergarten – Fifth Grade in Montgomery County Schools.
Will the program be remote or face-to-face? The Montgomery County Schools Board of Education approved for the system to open under Plan C, 100% remote learning, for all students for the 2020-2021 school year. The board cited concerns with the extremely high per capita infection rates in Montgomery County when making this difficult decision. The board discussed this plan for at least 6 weeks and will reassess this decision at the October BOE meeting. The ultimate goal of the board is for students to return to face-to-face learning as soon as it is safely possible to do so. 21st CCLC MERIT will adhere to the guidelines in Plan C and open our program remotely to families and students. The goal of 21st CCLC MERIT is that we are able to offer face-to-face operations when it is safe to resume programming.
What do students do each day? Students will participate in academic enrichment activities that can help them meet state and local achievement standards. Students will gain exposure to a broad array of additional enrichment services designed to reinforce and complement the regular academic program, such as drug and violence prevention programs, career and technical programs, counseling programs, art, music programs, STEM programs, homework assistance, physical activity, literacy, math, science and nutrition education programs. These programs and activities will be provided remotely to students.
What is the program schedule? What will the program look like? Program staff will provide online instruction, activities and support similar to our regular face-to-face afterschool program.
What are the times of the program? 21st CCLC MERIT will provide programming Monday-Thursday from 2:30-5:30pm.
How much does the program cost? Our 21st CCLC MERIT Program is FREE.
What are the program guidelines? The program will operate under the Montgomery County Schools Code of Conduct Policies. In addition, attendance requirements remain in place for the program. Children are required to participate in at least 95% of the Remote Afterschool Program time to keep their membership in the program.
What are the safety guidelines? 21st CCLC MERIT will follow the recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control, the North Carolina Governor, and Montgomery County Schools.
