Remote Learning Update
The Montgomery County Schools' Board of Education met during a special called meeting to discuss school reopening plans. Once again, the Board reviewed the staggering data for Montgomery County and the rapid rate at which the virus continues to spread in our community. Montgomery County is still categorized as a red county based on the NC County Alert System and continues to have one of the highest positivity rates in the state. Numbers are skyrocketing.
After reviewing the grim data, the Board of Education approved the following recommendations with the safety of students and staff in mind:
- Montgomery County Schools will operate virtually for all staff from January 16, 2021, to February 7, 2021. This will allow all teachers and staff to work from home, and remote learning will continue for students. Meals will still be available to families on the current schedule.
- Sports that are currently being played will continue during the three-week shutdown, but no additional sports will be started at this time until there is an improvement in the data for Montgomery County.
- The February Board of Education meeting will be rescheduled from February 1, 2021, to February 8, 2021.
- Remote learning will be extended until March 7, 2021. Traditional students will return on Plan B starting March 8, 2021, and Early College students will return on Plan B starting March 15, 2021, due to Spring Break. Families will also have the option to remain on Plan C. MCS Plan "B"
Board members continue to express their desire for students to return to the classrooms as soon as it is safely possible to do so.
We are in a dire situation; please continue to help do your part – wear a mask, wait 6 feet apart, and wash your hands frequently!
